Faedo and it’s mines
Founded by people who wanted to take refuge and defense from barbarian who used to attak the valley. After romans established the Austro Ungarico empire and people starter mining silver, copper and iron. Those mines are located between Faedo and Masen. The only testimony are the hundred tunnels that used to bring inside the mountain; now are covered by plants. Inside the forest people can walk through the path of the ancient mines.
The Castle - St. Michele all'Adige monastery
It provides the foundation in 1145 the bishop Altamanno, who appoints Prior Conrado I. Among the various events Augustinian monks held the Castle until 1807, when the institution was abolished by decree of the Bavarian government. From 1807 onwards, following years of spoliation until 1874 arises with the Provincial Agrarian Institute (Austro Hungarian Empire), which will remain in the old building until 1968, when he moved to a new place. The empty halls of the castle get new guests. This way born, founded by Joseph Sebesta, the Museum of Uses and Customs of the Trentino People, which in a short time, with its 100 rooms and the new issue becomes one of the most interesting museums in Italy and destination for many visitors.
St. Michele Church at Faedo
It was rebuilt in the second half of the seventeenth century after a fire destroyed it. It has remarkable frescoes of Alberti and Ruprecht. Of particular beauty are the wrought irons, which adorn the entrance. The monastery had to presidium and hospice. In the village below arose famous inns and taverns, one of which is the fifteenth "Black Eagle", which preserves Gothic frescoes.
St. Agata Church at Faedo
Although consecrated between 1360 and 1370, they already found traces of some documents in 1145. It is a baroque building with Romanesque elements, while the elegant Renaissance pronao dated 1776. Inside you can admire nine coats of arms with the insignia of the Dukes of Austria, the column of stone, the baptismal font (700t), the wooden pulpit (also of the eighteenth century) and Baroque altar carved in wood (1663-95).
Montreale Castel
Dominates all Piana Rotaliana. It is one of the castles of Trentino that arouses more curiosity and interest. Its function was to garrison the road wich goes towards Faedo to Cembra valley. Seigniory working there at the beginning of the 12th century the dynasty of the counts of Appiano. The manufactured form an imposing medieval architectural complex, which includes the majestic and former hexagonal tower. In this castle there are various legends and traditions: the occupation of the neck by the Roman consul Lutazio Catulo before the battle against the Cimbri, a marriage between Autari, King of the Lombards, and Teodolinda, daughter of Garibaldo, King of Bavaria. This event gave the name of Montereale, that means mountain of the king. According to tradition, moreover, there was a trap in the hexagonal tower, where the prisoners used to fall. Below there was a room in which were placed some sharp knives.
The railway of Cadino
The route starts in front of the restaurant Cadino, on the Brennero road. It begins with a small vertical face and goes on alternating rocks to beautiful horizontal paths, always well equipped. The rock is stable and with so many handles that allow you to climb, even in the most difficult points, without clinging on the metal rope. This is one of the reasons why the route, although difficult, is particularly enjoyable and rewarding. Within two hours brings to 700 m over the sea level. To go back at the starting point, you use another path, partially equipped wich in 40 minutes reaches Cadino.
Wine and Taste road, Avisane hills, Faedo, Cembra valley
Hotel Faedo Pineta is a member of the wine and taste route, which correspond at all the Cembra valley. The major products are the wines: Muller Thurgau, Nosiola, Chardonnay and Muller Thurgau Grappa.
Others special products of the area are luganega and carne salmistrata, in addition to the classics cold meats from the Trentino-Tirolo tradition. A special honey (millefiori)is producted from many natural varieties of plants.
European path number 5
Well knowed also as Path of Dürer, joins Costanza lake with Adriatico sea and pass across Salorno, Cauria, Zise, Lago santo and Cembra.
Sat paths
In this area you can walk along four different paths well marked and in excellent conditions: No 408 (Cadino - Pineta di Faedo), which runs 2 hours and a half, the No. 409 (Pineta di Faedo - Zise), which runs two hours, no 414 (S. Michele all'Adige - Holy Lake), which runs 3 hours, and No 417 (Palù Sovina - Rifugio Maderlina), 45 '.
Roccolo del Passo Sauch
Is a beautiful structure consisting of spruce and beech trees that were a trap game for the capture of birds across ropes placed around. Located in the town of Giovo, 935 m over sea level, lying in a field that slopes down to North on Rio Tigia and Val Stanauser, along the route of the migratory birds. It was built in the second half of the nineteenth Century by Carlo Mosaner. The “roccolo” is a historic monument, remarkable for its size and the charm of the forms.
